Sigma Xi Induction Ceremony

This event will not be available to the public. Please email Prof. Lois Banta if you would like to view the induction ceremony.

Members of the senior class who demonstrated intellectual initiative and completed extensive research for a senior thesis in science, math, or psychology will be inducted as associate members in Sigma Xi, the international scientific honor society. A key requirement for associate membership is the expectation that the student will continue with a career in scientific research, publishing their research from a Master’s and/or Ph.D., or the equivalent, in one of the eligible fields. Sigma XI was founded in 1886 as a research society for science and engineering. Its aims are to improve the interaction between science, technology, and society and to celebrate scientific research among the various disciplines. These Williams seniors join the nearly 75,000 Sigma Xi members in over 500 chapters affiliated with colleges, universities, industrial research centers, and government laboratories.
